  • Background: The pepper (Capsicum annuum) is a vegetable of great interest in the world because of its spice quality and vitamin C content. In the country, cultivation areas prioritized are north coast, coffee area, and Valle del Cauca although the average production can reach 9 t/ha/year, the low implementation of MGP reduces the competitiveness of the productive system. Additionally, the diagnosis of the sector in Colombia does not record figures phytosanitary management by the scarcity of specific products to control crop pests and diseases. However, a limiting problem is the incidence of anthracnose caused by Colletotri- chum spp, which causes large losses before and after harvest. Therefore, the search for sustainable alternatives for its control is necessary. Objective: To validate the in vitro effect of the essential oil of Cymbopogon citratus (DC.) Stapf and its interaction with agrochemicals and bio-input to control Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Methods: The essential oil is extracted from C. citratus by steam stripping distillation. It was isolated and identified the pathogen in pepper seedlings. The minimum concentration of oil was found and in vitro assays were performed by applying agrochemicals and essential oil for analyzing its compatibility with Trichol® and the effect on the control of the pathogen. Radial growth measurements at 2nd, 5th and 7th days were made, and on the last day, the sporulation was measured in a Neubauer chamber. Results: The minimum inhibitory concentration was 1000uL. The use of fungicides inhibit on a high percentage to C. gloeosporioides to 88%. The mixture of agrochemicals and essential oil increased inhibition of the pathogen. Trichol® treatment controls the pathogen 100%, but it is incompatible with C. citratus essential oil and Colizym®. Conclusións: Fungicides applied were effective against plant pathogen, but there was no compatibility between agrochemicals and bio-inputs in simultaneously application. It is recommended life studies of the effect of oil to joint its use with bio inputs. © 2016, Universidad de Antioquia. All rights reserved.
